Abstract

The researcher, through this study, aims to identify the general objectives of Islamic law (Maqasid al-Shariah) by defining them both linguistically and terminologically. The study also defines usury (riba) in language and terminology, and discusses the wisdoms and objectives that the Lawgiver intended to achieve through the prohibition of riba. It further explains the harms of riba on society from economic and social perspectives.

In conclusion, the researcher arrives at a number of findings, the most important of which are: preventing injustice and establishing justice, encouraging the spirit of work while rejecting laziness and dependence, protecting society from economic crises, and clarifying the dangers of riba. The study concludes with a number of recommendations
